Religious leaders across the nation roundly condemned an AI generated image of Donald Trump in a white robe, hand placed on a sufferer in a hospital bed, which mirrored Christ as the great physician. Southern Baptist Convention leaders and conservative Catholic talk show host’s like Michael Knowles roundly condemned the image as blasphemy. Trump claimed that he saw himself as a Red Cross doctor. But the sacred symbolism was clear. When political leaders drape themselves in the mantle of the Messiah they court controversy. Maybe that’s what Trump was looking for. But when the political leaders blur theological categories and liken themselves to saviors, it’s dangerous territory and nothing good comes from it. Trump has since deleted the post.
