A federal judge struck down the Trump Administration’s $100,000 fee on new H-1B visas. These are the immigration documents that allow highly skilled non-citizens to work in the U.S. for a period of time. U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin ruled that the hefty price tag for the visa amounted to a tax without congressional approval. The H-1B program offers 65,000 visas every year. An additional 20,000 visas are reserved for workers with advanced college degrees. And they’re good for three to six years. Before Trump’s modification, applicants typically paid about $2,000 to $5,000 in fees. Supporters viewed the increased fee for foreign workers as a privilege of working in the U.S. The Trump administration plans to appeal.
