Ever notice the billboards across Kentucky advertising for to “get your medical cannabis card today? The Kentucky state legislature legalized so-called medical cannabis a few years ago, but interestingly, it wasn’t based on scientific research or protocols that determine negative side effects or even dosages for certain patients. It was legalization of a drug by popular demand, and our lawmakers caved in to the pressure. The debate today isn’t so much over legalization, but rather over how potent medical cannabis should be. That’s because today’s cannabis often contains high levels of THC than what was produced decades ago. Public health experts are warning that regular use of cannabis has increased risk of addiction, psychosis and other serious mental health problems.
