The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Colorado cannot remove former President Trump from its ballot this year. The Supreme Court nixed the Colorado decision in a unanimous 9-0 decision and said that such power to determine who appears on a ballot for federal office is a power the Constitution doesn’t delegate to the States. It was an important ruling in several ways. It makes clear that states cannot dictate federal election law. And it benefits all political parties and candidates. But it’s important that it was unanimous, as the three liberal members agreed. Our federal election process may be messy at times, but it has been shown to work, and the U.S. Supreme Court was right to preserve it.
