Concerns are being raised about overseas travel by top University of Kentucky administrators. According to a report by the Lexington Herald-Leader, senior officials spent nearly $270,000 on travel between 2023 and 2025. This included trips to London and the Cayman Islands. Reporters requested receipts and detailed expense records but the university declined. They said the requests were unreasonably burdensome and that releasing the records would require significant staff time. Kentucky has an open records request process that allows reporters and the public to see what state and local entities are doing with our tax dollars. But clearly not everyone cooperates.  Critics argue that when public institutions like UK spend taxpayer dollars, transparency should be part of the cost of doing business.
