Should universities become sanctuaries for people who cannot prove their citizenship?

A group of University of Kentucky students think so. This is the latest activist movement on college campuses. More than 1500 signatures were gathered from students who want Kentucky's flagship university to provide shelter for undocumented students from being deported.

The petition was prompted in light of Donald Trump's election and hard stance on illegal immigration. The students are asking UK officials to resist complying with deportations or raids. While the students might be motivated by compassion, they undermine the idea that there should be rules in the first place. at all.

If they can convince the school to defy rules regarding immigration policy and national security, then why should anyone respect that the rules within the school such as determining grades, are valid? To arbitrarily demean one set of rules is to undermine the idea of rules at all.
