San Antonio’s City Council passed a resolution condemning the use of the term “China Virus” as hate speech.” The resolution said in part “COVID-19 is a public health issue, not a racial, religious or ethnic one, and the deliberate use of terms such as ‘Chinese virus’ or ‘Kung Fu virus’ to describe COVID-19 only encourages hate crimes and incidents against Asians and further spreads misinformation at a time when communities should be working together to get through this crisis.” Texas Sen. Ted Cruz called the resolution “nuts” and compared the City Council’s behavior to “a lefty college faculty lounge, triggered by Chick-fil-A” … And yes, this is the same city council that voted to bar Chick-fil-A from leasing space at their airport. So maybe this latest resolution is par for the course.
