REAL ID drivers licenses go into effect today. If you fly, you need a REAL ID or passport for airline travel. In the past couple of months, Kentuckians have been scrambling to get REAL IDs and the licensing centers have been overwhelmed. Part of the frustration has been caused by the move to regional licensing centers. There are only 34 in the state today. In 2022, Kentuckians could go to their local circuit court’s office to have their drivers license renewed. But not anymore. Another wrinkle is the idea that state drivers licenses have been nationalized and could jeopardize privacy and lead to abuse. In either case, frustration over ineffective government has hit a crescendo with Kentuckians.
