Kentucky has too many kids in foster care. In fact, there are 8600 kids who aren't in permanent homes. That's why the state legislature made major changes to streamline the adoption process. The bill relieves social workers of burdensome paper work and forces the state to act quicker on behalf of children. Grandparents who are caring for grandchildren are given more rights in court and mothers who give birth to a drug-dependent babies and refuses to drug rehabilitation could have their parental rights terminated. Unmarried fathers who don't show any interest in the child they fathered must register with the state within 30 days after the child’s birth if they want to have input on the adoption processes. The bill is a great step forward for children who need permanent homes.
