Several shots were fired at the White House Correspondents Dinner last week in Washington D.C., before gunman Cole Allen was tackled by the Secret Service. It was the third attempt on Pres. Trump’s life in two years. Allen was a college teacher and left behind a manifesto railing against the Trump administration. This latest political violence continues to jolt us.  Settling political differences with violent force is anathema to our shared democratic ideals of how we settle our differences and govern ourselves Regardless of what your political stripes are, violence can never be the solution to our problems. Nor can it have the final say in deciding who our leaders will be. This proves true just as much for those on the political right as the political left. And leaders from both parties need to say that.
