Director, Commonwealth Policy Center

Just when we need it, there's good news from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding one of the hottest social issues of our day: The numbers of abortions are declining. According to their latest report 664,435 abortions were reported to CDC in 2013. And there has been a 46 percent drop in girls aged 15-19 who've had an abortion. Some will claim credit this is due to widely available birth control. But pro-lifers point to the 2500 Pregnancy Care Centers across the nation that help women in at-risk pregnancies. The also point to shifting public opinion of abortion and enactment of pro-life laws like ultrasound and informed consent. More than half a million abortions are still too many. For a culture built on the right to life, there's still much to be done.
