The 2026 Kentucky legislative session is officially over. And it ended with an Exclamation point! During the two day override session where nearly every single veto of Governor Andy Beshear’s was overridden. This is because Republicans have over 80% supermajorities in both houses. While the governor has the bully pulpit in the states attention, the state legislature is the driving force behind state policy and lawmaking. Our founders meant it this way where elected representatives would have the most power. Of course, Kentucky State House members go before the people every two years and state Senators every four years. The midterm election in less than a month will serve as a referendum on the direction of the Commonwealth.
