The U.S. Supreme Court recently heard a case challenging Colorado’s ban on so-called “conversion therapy” for minors. Conversion therapy is a derogatory term that implies coercion and harm to those receiving counseling regarding same-sex attraction and gender dysphoria. Colorado’s law is being challenged on the grounds that it censors faith-based counseling and therefore violates the First Amendment. Colorado’s law bans a view that the state lawmakers don’t like. And this is illegal. Nearly 25 states have similar laws that ban counselors from helping gender dysphoric minors. This hits home for Kentucky as Gov. Andy Beshear issued an executive order last year, but the legislature overturned it. A Supreme Court ruling that overturns Colorado’s discriminatory law, would be a reset for the First Amendment.
