The U.S. Supreme Court said that the question of citizenship could not be included on the 2020 census. The Census counts the number of U.S. citizens and is used for determining Congressional districts, but the Court says that the Trump administration’s justification “seems to have been contrived.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Trump only wants the citizenship information because he wants to “make America white again.” This has caused great concern, even angered many Americans who believe that it’s the government’s duty to know who’s here legally. Now, Attorney General William Barr announced that he sees a way to legally find out whether census respondents are legal citizens. President Trump is expected to issue a memo to the Commerce Department instructing it to include the question on census forms.
