Two important issues bring into focus the political considerations for many voters. First, the Department of Health and Human Services elevated the sexual identity of minors in the foster care system at the expense of faith-based ministries like Kentucky’s Sunrise Children’s Services. Second, the US Department of Education politicized gender identity of public school at the expense of girls-only spaces and jeopardized girls sports. The policy goes into effect August 1. Dale Suttles, president of Sunrise told me they’ll be under a shadow until they have another president that won’t infringe on their religious freedom. There are similar concerns for parents whose daughters are in public schools. Both concerns are real and existential threats that voters will consider in the November election.
