Political divisiveness continues to plague our country, and the charges brought by the January 6th Congressional Committee will further that divide. The Committee found enough evidence that former Pres. Donald Trump was complicit in “inciting a crowd to violence” in the January 6 Capitol riot. Criminal charges for Trump have now been referred to the U.S. Justice Department, including “obstruction of an official proceeding” and “conspiracy to defraud the U.S. by assisting, aiding or comforting those involved in an insurrection.” Nearly 1000 people have been charged in the Capitol riot. Committee Member Jamie Raskin said, while announcing the referrals, said that “Ours is not a system of justice, where foot soldiers go to jail and the masterminds and ringleaders get a free pass.”
