Here’s some good news to start off the new year: 17 states, including Kentucky, have blocked Pornhub. The porn site produces some of the most vile content on the internet. Now, Kentucky lawmakers are hoping to make further progress by lowering the threshold for what qualifies as an explicit website. The new proposal would also require age verification for any social media site which contains explicit content. For example, over half of all teenagers have an Instagram account. But as The Wall Street Journal reported last summer, Instagram’s algorithm recommends sexually explicit content to teens. Several legislators want to protect Kentucky kids from this harmful content. We’ll find out soon enough just how many legislators will make this a priority.
