Voters in over 100 Kentucky counties and cities will decide in November whether they want to allow medical marijuana dispensaries in their communities. Who knew there was this much interest in growing and selling cannabis across the commonwealth? Kentucky will only allow 74 such licenses this year. There’s much hype behind medical marijuana. But there’s very little medical evidence that shows it is an effective drug to treat particular illnesses. It’s being sold like snake oil: a cure-all for diseases and cities and counties that pass these ballot measures may learn the hard way. Medical marijuana may cause much more trouble than it solves, and it may very well open the door to recreational marijuana in the future.
