The cold-blooded murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was caught on tape in New York City. The brutality jarred our nation. Yet a recent survey revealed something deeply troubling: huge number of young people believe the murder was justified. According to an Emerson College poll, 41% of Americans aged 18-29 believe that the killing of the healthcare executive was morally justified. This should shake us to our core, because when the killing of innocent people becomes acceptable, none of us are safe. We ought to be asking hard questions of what has gone wrong in our country to cause so many people to think murder is an acceptable path to rectifying real and perceived injustices.
