242 years ago, we declared our independence from England when 56 men came together in Philadelphia to sign their names to one of the greatest political documents ever written. The Declaration of Independence explained why the colonies were separating from Britain. The founders staked their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to create a new nation where that all men are created equal and rulers aren't above the law. We're a nation founded upon the idea that our rights come from God and that legitimate government is by the consent of the governed. These ideals are worth celebrating with fireworks, cookouts and time at the lake.
