Gov. Andy Beshear ordered restaurants, bars, and event venues to close on Friday. He ordered all K-12 schools to close today. The effort is supposed to slow the spread of COVID-19. But the one-size-fits-all campaign against Covid neglects to consider the impact on restaurant owners at their busiest time of year. Several owners believe it to be a death-knell to already struggling businesses. The state is setting up a $40 million assistance fund to help restaurants and bars impacted. But such aid will fall far short to help an industry already devastated by the previous shutdown. Beshear is allowing gyms, swimming pools, and fitness centers to remain open at one-third capacity. Expect this arbitrary and heavy-handed approach to be challenged in court.
