The Kentucky state legislature is considering a flurry of bills that deal with human life. One Kentucky Republican filed a bill (HB 711) that would create rape and incest exceptions to Kentucky’s abortion ban. His colleague introduced a bill (HB 700) that would assist women who conceive in sexual assault, and would provide services and financial support for them. Another legislator filed a bill (SB 373) that would protect in vitro fertilization fertility clinics. This is in light of Alabama Supreme Court ruling that held that embryos are human beings that should be protected in law. One thing we can learn from this is that human life—born and unborn—is valuable. And a robust debate over public policy that protects the dignity and recognizes the value of all life is underway in our statehouse.
