(Frankfort, KY) — The Commonwealth Policy Center (CPC) welcomes members of the Kentucky General Assembly back to Frankfort on January 6 for the first day of the 2026 Regular Session.

“I know this will be a very busy year for legislators as they work to create a two-year budget, along with many additional bills that will be filed and considered during this 60-legislative-day session,” said Mike Harmon, CPC’s State Outreach Director.

“During my thirteen years serving in the Kentucky House, the first day of session was always met with excitement and anticipation. I want legislators to know that CPC is praying for them, and that our door is always open should they have questions regarding the important issues of the day.”

CPC Executive Director Richard Nelson encouraged Kentuckians to pray for their elected leaders.

“The public arena has become a brutal and often unforgiving environment,” Nelson said. “It is important that Kentuckians of all political persuasions pray for wisdom and for the safety of state lawmakers as they work to make laws that promote a more just and safe commonwealth.”

However, his broad application of the parable is a stretch in places, especially when taken to support public policies contrary to biblical ethics.

California just passed a law that requires all employers to institute anti-hate speech training. And what’s particularly controversial is that it doesn’t make exceptions for churches. Assembly Bill 1803 (AB-1803) was passed earlier this year by the California General Assembly and signed into law late last month by Governor Gavin Newsom.
