Christmas is just days away, but have you ever wondered what we’re really celebrating? Seven hundred years before the birth of Christ, the prophet Isaiah told about the coming Messiah. In chapter 9 of the book of Isaiah, it says, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone…. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end.” Christmas is a celebration of God coming to earth to save us from the power of sin and hell and reconcile us to himself. And that’s good news worth celebrating.
