Governor Andy Beshear travelled to Alabama to campaign for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Doug Jones. Jones recently won the Democratic primary and believes he has a real shot at the Governor’s Mansion in November. Some see Beshear’s travel and endorsement as his duty as chairman of the Democratic Governors’ Association. Critics raise concerns about how much time Beshear is focused on issues not relating to his responsibility as governor of Kentucky. It’s no secret that Beshear is considered a top-contender by national Democrats for the White House in 2028. But blurring the lines between fulfilling official duties and campaigning at public expense raise ethical concerns about the appropriation of tax dollars. Public funds exist for the betterment of Kentucky, not the political advancement of its governor.
