A headline over at NBC News said: “Exclusive: At least 125,000 fully vaccinated Americans tested positive for COVID.” Another headline at the Washington Post said: “Vaccinated people made up three-quarters of those infected in a massive Massachusetts covid-19 outbreak, pivotal CDC study finds.” Just reading these headlines are misleading and stir fear. One commentator calls this “fear porn.” It’s what much of today’s news media specializes in order to gin up viewership. The first headlines makes it sound like the vaccine’s not working but consider that 164,757,423 Americans have been vaccinated. Hence the infection rate is .076 percent. Remember, the best vaccine is only 95 percent effective. Good journalism is balanced and guards against fear-mongering. And in a time of crisis we need level-heads and less fear-driven reporting.
