Governor Matt Bevin held the Kentucky Governor's annual prayer breakfast in Frankfort this morning. Close to 1000 pastors, businessmen and civic leaders gathered from across the state to hear an inspiring message and to pray for our government. But it wouldn't have happened if Gov. Bevin listed to the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Last year, they urged him to cancel the event. They said that sponsoring the event "abrogates his duty to be neutral". Now atheist groups are expected to say such things but they shouldn't be allowed to revise history. Our founding fathers often issued proclamations that called for prayer and fasting. and they invited pastors to open up their sessions in prayer. We shouldn't expect our leaders to divorce their religious convictions from their public conduct. And in these times, we all could use a little more prayer—whether initiated by the governor or you and me as private citizens.
