Public trust is essential for good government in our Commonwealth, but a recent report raises serious questions about conflicts of interest in questionable income sources for one lawmaker. State Senator Julie Raque Adams received $80,500 from a nonprofit she leads called Kentucky Strong—an organization funded entirely by special interests like gambling and utility companies. Adams calls this “nominal compensation” for eleven years of work, but IRS records reveal the donations were made in the last three years. Problem with this is that the groups who made the donations like Churchill Downs are the very organizations that come before her Licensing and Occupation Committee to get approval for certain bills.  Such dealings cloud legislative fairness and undermines the integrity of our government.
