The fallout from those celebrating the murder of political activist, Charlie Kirk continues. Florida governor, Ron DeSantis and his state Board of Education issued a memo, warning, teachers to not publicly praise Kirk’s death. If they do this, they will lose their jobs. Over at MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd was terminated after he insinuated that Kirks assassination was somehow deserved. Critics will say that this is cancel culture but in reality it’s accountability. Free speech protects us from government punishment, but it doesn’t shield us from consequences when words cross the line into celebrating political violence. Our republic depends on healthy debate, not dehumanization of opponents. Suggesting that someone “had it coming” isn’t analysis—it’s reckless and dangerous.
