A Cuban national living in Louisville was indicted after allegedly assaulting two federal immigration officers. Twenty-five-year-old Laryen Torres-Carmona entered the U.S. on parole in 2023, but his legal status expired this summer. Since then, he’s been arrested for theft, trespassing, and domestic violence. When ICE agents attempted to arrest him at the immigration office in Louisville, he shoved and resisted them. Thankfully, no officers were seriously injured. This case highlights the importance of enforcing our immigration laws. When parole is ignored and crimes pile up, public safety is at risk. Protecting our communities requires upholding the law and supporting those who enforce it. It also reminds us that immigration policy isn’t abstract—it affects real people’s safety every day.
