Kentucky lawmakers are examining generative artificial intelligence and the effects on society. State Rep. Deanna Gordon raised concern about AI’s role in decisions such as denying medical claims. She favors policies that mandate human review. Co‑chair of the legislature’s AI task force, State Rep. Josh Bray, said we must teach students to treat AI as a tool—not a crutch. It’s easy to fall into the trap to let AI do work for us, but when it comes to educating children, they need to learn core skills like writing, math, and reasoning. And learning these skills cannot be farmed out to a computer algorithm. AI has its place, but safeguards must be put in place, lest we become dehumanized.
