Cannabis-related emergencies in Kentucky are increasing—especially among youth. And according to some this isn’t just a trend, it’s a health crisis. Within the last two years cannabis poisonings in children under 18 surged 43%. In 2024 there were 212 emergency room visits due to kids being poisoned by pot. And nearly 40% of poison center calls last year involved kids under age 12. The culprit is often from gummies resembling candy. Perhaps we need to be mindful that pot isn’t candy. But this comes with a normalization of marijuana – once viewed as a destructive and harmful drug as to something that’s a cure all for everything. One things for sure we need to do a better job keeping kids away from it.
