The U.S. Education Department Office for Civil Rights announced last week that two California institutions violated federal law. The U.S. Department of Education found that the California Department of Education and the California Interscholastic Federation violated Title IX law in allowing biological males to compete in girls’ sports. Since both institutions receive federal funds, they are subject to federal civil rights laws. Although California Governor Gavin Newsom recently came out against men in women’s sports, the practice continues in his state. Most recently a biological male dominated at the California girls state track meet. Title IX protections are rooted in biological differences between males and females and led to the creation of women’s sports in public schools. And this is what federal civil rights officers are trying to preserve.
