Earlier this month Attorney General Russell Coleman said that the Fayette County Public School Board violated the law in issuing a tax increase. Now the school board is under investigation by the Kentucky State Auditor’s office. Previously, Coleman found that the board failed to follow state protocol regarding the tax increase. The board failed to inform the community that the vote on the increase was going to happen. The tax spike produced a public outcry, essentially decrying taxation without representation. The investigation results are not yet in. But one thing is certain, no one is above the law. And when government seems to forget this, it is right for both citizens and fellow public officials to remind them.
