A cryptocurrency investor from Paducah, Kentucky was arrested in connection with a New York City kidnapping case. John Woeltz is being held without bail for allegedly kidnapping, abusing, and torturing an Italian businessman in order to get his bitcoin password. Woeltz is now facing two counts of second-degree assault, first-degree kidnapping, and unlawful imprisonment. Woeltz is a former member of a Paducah- based nonprofit, but has long been successful in cryptocurrency. Family members and former associates express shock and disbelief at the allegations. This case is a reminder of the fallenness of mankind. It’s why we have laws. And even the successful and prominent sometimes succumb to covetousness and greed that leads to harming their fellow man.
