Earlier this month, Congressional Republicans passed the annual defense authorization bill, but it does more than fund our military. The measure ends funding for soldiers seeking abortions, prevents transgender procedures on soldiers, limits DEI programs, and bans the display of pride flags on bases. It was largely a party line vote. Republicans oppose the Biden Administration’s insertion of political activism into our military. And Democrats are supporting it. One Democratic lawmaker protested that “[Republicans] are putting culture wars over national security.” But this is precisely what Congressional Republicans are opposing. Pushing DEI and LGBT ideology doesn’t contribute to strong national defense. And a military that embraces social ideology at the expense of competence fails to do its job and protect us.
