Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ announcement of his department’s creation of a Disinformation Governance Board drew the ire of two Kentucky political leaders. Attorney General Daniel Cameron said that a Disinformation Governance Board “poses a serious threat to the First Amendment rights of Kentuckians and citizens across the country.” Sen. Rand Paul agreed. In fact, he grilled Mayorkas in a Senate hearing and said that we work out “disputes by debating the issues.” Paul pointed out several examples of disinformation the U.S. government has been involved in. Free societies protect freedom of speech, but there’s a real danger when they feel the need to put their official stamp of approval on what they deem the truth to be.
