The social media website X, formerly known as Twitter, will now allow users to post pornographic content. The decision appears to place X in direct conflict with states like Kentucky, which require age verification for adult websites. The new rules say that “sexual expression, whether visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression.” But this is very debatable, since the First Amendment does not protect obscenity. Parents may find that X is no longer a welcome place for their children. X claims that children and those offended by adult content can opt out, but it remains to be seen how effective those features will be. If pornographic websites like Pornhub merit government restriction, is the same true for X?
