Earlier in the week we celebrated Flag Day. It was a day to reflect on the flag and what it stands for. But have ever thought about what it means to be an American? What does America stand for? There has been a lot of revisionist history that would like to cast America as a racist, sexist, greedy, nation. But America was built by brave men who forged a nation that was founded on the rule of law, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of press, freedom to assemble and associate with like-minded people without fear of government reprisal, the freedom to pursue our God-given calling. America is a great nation that has allowed people to become the best versions of themselves. It’s not without real flaws and dark chapters, but by holding to its founding ideals there are many better chapters in front of us.
