In his State of the Union address, President Biden talked about his “new economic vision for America,” which includes more infrastructure spending. Biden went on to say that “America used to have the best roads, bridges, and airports on Earth. And now our infrastructure is ranked 13th in the world.” Of course, he’s talking about physical structures. But what about the moral and spiritual health of our union? How are the American people fairing mentally and socially? Since Covid, mental health has dramatically declined. So has church attendance. When we look at the true state of our union, roads and bridges are important, but we must look at the fundamental things that make us healthy. This includes our spiritual health, which the government can never address. Instead, it’s a purview of the church and a challenge for churches to step up to meet this fundamental need.
