A survey last year found that most Americans are overwhelmed by all the news. According to a survey by the Pew Research Center 68 percent of Americans feel “overwhelmed by the amount of news there is.” Now, there’s always been a lot of news, but what we have today are 24-hour news channels. We also have smart devices that deliver news immediately and social media platforms that allow anyone to become a journalist or purveyor of news. This steady stream and constant availability leads to “news fatigue.” We all want to know what’s going on in the world. But life isn’t “all news, all the time.” This means that we ought to find reliable news sources and limit the amount of time consuming the news—because there’s more to life than just news.
