The Texas Supreme Court has rejected a legal challenge to the state’s ban on abortion. Opponents of the laws argue that current medical exemptions don’t protect women whose pregnancies place them at medical risk. But this is simply a faulty argument. One justice said a physician who tells a patient they are suffering a life-threatening pregnancy complication “and in the same breath states ‘but the law won’t allow me to provide an abortion in these circumstances’ is simply wrong.” In other words, the law allows an exception if the mother’s life is at risk. Here in Kentucky, opponents of pro-life protections have used the same disingenuous argument. It’s expected they may make a similar appeal before the state Supreme Court.
