The Ten Commandments are one step closer to coming back to the Kentucky Capitol. The huge monument was donated by the Kentucky Fraternal Order of Eagles in 1971 but was removed after a construction project and ended up in Hopkinsville. A Joint Resolution was passed by the Kentucky State House on Wednesday. It’s now awaiting approval by the State Senate. Critics argue that placing the monument on state property blurs church/state separation. Supporters say the Ten Commandments are foundational to civil order. The Ten Commandments can’t force people to become moral. But in a day when our moral compass is arguably missing, the Ten Commandments remind us that there is a God and a moral order by which a just society should govern itself.
