I testified before a legislative committee on a bill (SB 115) addressing sexually oriented performances in public places where children are present. I told the Senate Veterans Military Affairs and Public Protection Committee that public drag performances that mimic stripping where children are around is becoming increasingly common. So there is a real need to restrict sexually oriented activities and to protect children from this. It should have been no surprise that the drag queen community showed up in force and vigorously opposed the bill. Some said it was anti-trans legislation. It wasn’t. It was a simple effort to maintain public decency and protect our kids. And a majority in committee agreed.
