The U.S. Supreme Court has allowed a Texas law to stand that bans most abortions. Five conservative justices formed a majority and have effectively prevented federal courts from blocking the law. This is good news for the democratic process and the rights of states to form their own abortion policy. Liberal Justice Sotamayor, a staunch abortion advocate, called abortion a constitutional right in her opinion. Of course, abortion is never mentioned as a right in the U.S. Constitution and simply saying something is constitutional doesn’t make it so. A final ruling on the Mississippi abortion case is expected in July. If the law is upheld, it will save the lives of millions of unborn children.
