Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is leading the charge to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. That’s more than double the current minimum wage which is $7.25 an hour. Now, many of Sander’s campaign staff are demanding that he begin practicing in his campaign what he’s been preaching to the nation. So Sanders caved in and increased the minimum hourly pay of his campaign workers to $15. The problem is that making speeches about doubling the minimum wage is much easier than delivering. Sanders campaign workers got their pay increased but in order to do so, he’s had to cut their hours, which shows that market forces and economic realities will trump political promises and campaign rhetoric every time.
