The headlines of the Louisville Courier-Journal said "Fired"— as in Rick Pitino, University of Louisville's basketball coach. The U of L board of trustees unanimously voted to fire Pitino for his involvement with serious recruiting violations. This was the last straw in a string of scandals involving the hall of fame caliber college basketball coach. So what can we learn from this sad tale? For starters: character matters. In fact, character is everything. We also learned that cutting corners in order to win isn't worth it. U of L now has a black eye and its basketball program will suffer for years to come. Pitino may have won championships, but his legacy will be clouded with deep questions of integrity—- leaving fans to question: if winning comes at any cost, is it really winning at all?
