Congressional hearings on the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol revealed that elected Republicans were pressured by the Trump administration to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Arizona Speaker of the House Rusty Bowers and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger both testified to being pressured to overturn the results. U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr intervened and investigated election fraud charges and didn’t find any evidence. Barr believed that if his office didn’t intervene, it would have failed in the peaceful transition of power. Barr said that he shuddered to think of what might have happened if his department didn’t look into charges of election fraud and wasn’t “sure we would’ve had a transition at all.”
