Ever hear of the Hyde Amendment? Unless you keep tabs on the abortion debate you probably haven’t. In short, the Hyde Amendment has been a federal law for decades and says that no federal funds can be used for abortions in the United States. It was sponsored by stalwart pro-life Congressman Henry Hyde, a legendary champion to protect the unborn. Now in the latest budget battle in Washington, Democrats stripped out the provision in their budget proposal. In other words, Congressional Democrats wanted to use your tax dollars to fund abortion. But last-minute heroics by Sen. James Lankford, (R-Oklahoma) put the law back in place. The deciding vote, by the way, was by Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who is one of the few pro-life Democrats remaining in Washington.
