The Kentucky General Assembly will take up a Constitutional Amendment that says that nowhere does the Kentucky Constitution convey that abortion is a protected right. Joe Fischer, a Republican State Representative from Northern Kentucky is sponsoring the bill. The bill is a response to court rulings in other states that somehow find a right to abortion in state Constitutions. It’s also a response to a handful of state legislatures that are enshrining abortion as a protected right in their state laws. Kentucky is one of the strongest pro-life states in the nation with many protections for the unborn and many protections regarding full-disclosure for women seeking an abortion. If Fischer’s constitutional amendment passes the House and Senate with three-fifths majorities, it will be on the ballot in November 2020.
